All You Need To Know About Dental Bonding

A chipped or a broken tooth is something that nobody wants to live with. It not just makes your smile look bad but also, hampers your self esteem. But, the good news is that there is a miracle by which it can be fixed, and that miracle of modern dental science is-‘Dental Bonding’. Dental bonding is a fast comfortable option by which you can enhance your smile dramatically. Many patients who come to Ridgetop Dental’s state-of-the-art Northern Virginia dental clinic with chipped, stained or broken teeth get their teeth fixed using this wonderful procedure. So, let’s find out what is ‘dental Bonding’ and how can it be beneficial for you?
What is dental bonding?
Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material (a durable plastic material) is applied and hardened with a special light, which ultimately "bonds" the material to the tooth to restore or improve person's smile.
Which conditions can be corrected by dental bonding?
  • To repair decayed teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
  • To repair chipped or cracked teeth
  • To improve the appearance of discoloured teeth
  • To close spaces between teeth
  • To make teeth look longer
  • To change the shape of teeth
  • As a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings
  • To protect a portion of the tooth's root that has been exposed when gums recede
How is it done?
With cosmetic bonding, the damaged tooth’s surface is prepared with an etching solution. This solution helps the bonding material, a resin-based composite, to adhere to your tooth. The color of the resin-base composite is matched to your teeth, restoring your smile to its natural beauty. The resin is applied and contoured to the shape needed before hardening. It is cured with a special light and sometimes through a chemical process. Once hardened and complete, the bonded tooth is smoothed and polished to a perfect shine. Make sure you visit a leading dentist in Ashburn VA to ensure the materials used and the contouring process is of high quality for best results.

How Do I Take Care Of My Dentures?

Ridgetop Dental is a highly advanced centre for Cosmetic and General Dentistry and has been serving the community for many years by providing excellent dental care using latest and innovative technologies.
Smile is an accessory that never goes out of vogue. A perfect smile is desired by all. But, unfortunately if some or all of your permanent teeth have fallen out or have been removed then you may be using dentures. Your dentures will last longer and fit better if you take proper care of them. Removable partial or full dentures require proper denture care to keep them clean, free from stains and looking their best. Our leading dentists in Washington DC present certain golden tips to keep your hard working dentures in good shape.

Keep them clean. Run water over your dentures to remove food debris and other loose particles. Brush your dentures each day the same way that you would brush your teeth, with one key difference: Skip the toothpaste. Many commercial types of toothpaste can damage dentures. Instead, use a soft-bristle denture brush, designed specifically for cleaning dentures

Handle them with care. Clean them over a folded towel or bowl of water in case they drop. Don’t use toothpicks when you’re wearing them, and don’t use strong cleaners or hard brushes to clean them. All of these can cause damage to your dentures.

When not using the dentures. When you aren’t wearing your dentures, let them soak in cool water or a denture cleaning solution to keep them from drying out. Be careful of cleaning solutions if your dentures have mental attachments—the solutions could cause the metal to tarnish. And don’t soak dentures in hot water—they could warp.

Schedule regular dental checkups. The Washington dentures experts at Ridgetop Dental advice that it is always good to have your dentures examined and professionally cleaned. Your dentist can help ensure a proper fit to prevent slippage and discomfort. See your dentist promptly if your dentures become loose. Loose dentures can cause irritation, sores and infection.

If you take care of your dentures, you should be able to use them for five to seven years before you need to replace them. For complete care of your dentures and overall dental health count on the experts at Ridgetop Dental. Talk to our Washington DC denture experts; don’t let another day go by without taking this important first step to restoring your confidence and your smile!

What To Do If You Lose A Tooth In An Accident

Ridgetop Dental is a highly advanced centre for Cosmetic and General Dentistry and has been serving the Northern Virginia community for many years by providing excellent dental care using latest and innovative technologies.

Accidental tooth loss is a serious situation, especially if a person loses permanent teeth in the mishap. According to the experts at Ridgetop Dental when a permanent tooth is knocked out of a person’s mouth, time is of the essence. So, here is what you should do when faced with such a situation.

·         A tooth that fell out, and which structure is maintained without any major fracture, must be re-implanted in its socket within 60 minutes after the accident for best chances for it to remain in position.

·         If the tooth root is still partially attached to nerves or gums, the best thing to do is put it back in place. Once back in the socket, hold it there with a cool compress, and call your dentist.

·         If the tooth has fallen out completely then, apply pressure to the empty socket with sterile gauze. Pick up the lost tooth by crown, have the victim bite down or hold it there with gauze.
·         If the teeth cannot be put back in socket, it must be transported safely to the emergency room by doing one of these things:

1.      Place the knocked out tooth in a glass of milk.
2.      If you do not have milk available, place the tooth in a container with saliva.
3.      If no container is available, place the tooth between your lower lip and gum, or under your tongue.

These were some ways by which you can save your tooth. But, if you do lose a tooth permanently, your dentist or periodontist may correct it with cosmetic dentistry. Artificial teeth are perfect for people, who have lost a tooth, and look just like your real teeth. So if you are looking for high quality dental implants in Sterling, VA, discuss the best treatment options available for you with dental experts at Ridgetop Dental.
